The College Application Process

Review college material & get application

  • SUNY Application, Common Application, mini-fairs at AHS, or contact the college directly for application.

Review the college process package from Guidance Counselor

  • Complete and sign letter of recommendation form--return form to counselor at least 2-3 weeks prior to needing letter

Ask 2-3 teachers for a letter of recommendation at least 2-3 weeks prior to needing letter

  • Teachers will mail letter of recommendation directly to college. If application comes with a teacher evaluation form, please hand to the teacher.

  • Teacher needs a stamped addressed envelope for each college to which you are applying.

When application is complete--Bring the application to the Guidance Office 2 weeks before deadline. If January 1st deadline in to counselor by November 29th.

  • Large envelope with at least 3 stamps, addressed to college.

  • Check or payment for application fee

The Guidance Office will only process mid-year grades to the colleges that you have requested.

Requests can be made by providing the counselor a stamped, addressed envelope to the college. If the college requires a separate mid-year evaluation form, please provide to your counselor.

If you receive a card from a college requiring that you attach the card to your mid-year grades, please make the counselor aware of the card.

Final grades will need to be sent to the college that you will be attending in the Fall. Please give your counselor a stamped addressed envelope by June 1st.
