Arlington's New Teacher Induction Program
Philosophical Beliefs Arlington Central School District has long believed that the most critical resource in a quality school and school district is the classroom teacher. New and exciting programs and courses come and go. New teaching methodologies and pedagogies come and go. But it is the teacher who actively engages the student instructionally and personally and contributes directly to the teaching and learning process. Arlington also believes that it has a responsibility to facilitate and contribute to the professional growth and development of teachers. Every new program, teaching methodology and pedagogy contribute to a teacher’s understanding of teaching, learning and the students’ personal and emotional needs. Successful Collaboration Between Arlington Teacher’s Association A clause in Article XII, Section C Length of Work Year of the Arlington Teacher’s Association Contract provides for a joint district-ATA Committee to plan for a New Teacher Orientation Program. The language in the contract is as follows:
August 30th and August 31st 2005 An Induction Program for New Teachers in 2005 The program will take place at Arlington High School on Route 55 in LaGrangeville on Tuesday August 30 and Wednesday August 31 7:45am - 3:00. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the District each day and a special welcome dinner will be held at Tina's Restaurant on Tuesday August 30, 4:00 - 6:00pm, sponsored by the ATA. New teachers will participate in a broad array of informational sessions. Sessions will include: Day One:
Day Two:
Time to meet with assigned mentors and to learn about building specific procedures will also be provided. We look forward to seeing you during the New Teacher Induction Program this summer. WELCOME TO ARLINGTON!
September 1, 2, 3, 2004 A Successful Program for New Teachers in 2004 Arlington has traditionally conducted a New Teacher Induction Program of one day’s duration. In cooperation with the Arlington Teachers’ Association, it was agreed that there was a need for a more comprehensive induction program for new teachers. Schools and school districts are organizations that have increased in complexity in recent years as a result of new and comprehensive Federal and State mandates. A one day program just touched the surface of the information essential for new teachers to know about their schools, their students and their professional lives.
