ATHLETIC TRAINING
CONCUSSION HOME INSTRUCTIONS |
Parent / Guardian:
Your child has suffered a head injury during athletic participation. To make sure that he/she recovers from a concussion, please follow the important recommendations:
- Please remind your child to report to the athletic training room tomorrow at 2:15 PM for a follow up evaluation.
- Please review the items outlined on the back “Physician Referral Checklist”. If any of these problems develop prior to his/her visit, please contact the local emergency center or your family physician. Otherwise you can follow the instructions outlined below:
It is OK to:
- Use acetaminophen(Tylenol) for headaches
- Use ice packs on head and neck as needed for comfort.
- Eat a light diet.
- Return to school.
- Go to sleep.
- Rest (no strenuous activity or sports).
There is NO need to:
- Check eyes with flashlight.
- Wake up every hour.
- Test reflexes.
- Stay in bed.
DO NOT:
- Drink alcohol.
- Eat spicy foods.
Please be aware that your child must be cleared by a certified athletic trainer and/or a physician prior to returning to athletic participation.
