• All Vail Farm 3rd grade classes will begin to play the recorder in January!  Mrs. Guzzo and Mrs. Wemple encourage your children to wait to play until we begin learning in class!  Paperwork regarding ordering your child's recorder will be sent home in October, so be on the look-out!

Below, you will find the answers to some frequently asked questions (information for when we begin playing in January!).

  • Why is my child learning how to play the recorder?

    Posted by:

All third grade students in the Arlington Central School District learn how to play the recorder as a component of the Elementary General Music Curriculum.  Performance on the recorder teaches essential musicianship skills in the areas of rhythm, pitch and performance in an ensemble.  The range of the soprano recorder is also similar to that of the child's voice.

  • How often should my child practice the recorder at home?

    Posted by:

Children should practice the recorder at home for appromiately 10 minutes each day between music classes.  Home practice will help your child improve upon skills learned in the music room.  A lack of adqequate practice at home equates to a lack of adequate progress on the recorder.

  • How can I help my child at home?

    Posted by:

    1) Encourage your child to meet his/her daily practice requirements to ensure that progress is made.

    2) Help your child stay organized by keeping recorder handouts/music in a two-pocket music folder.

    3) Read through handouts with your child during practice time.

    4) Allow your child to perform newly acquired skills/songs for your family to develop confidence.

  • Help! My child's recorder is broken!

If you're child's recorder is broken, you are responsible with providing them with a replacement.  I can provide you with helpful information on ordering a replacement but this will need to be done at home.
