Home Schooling Information

  • Information for Parents/Guardians on the Homeschooling Policies of Arlington Central School District.

Homeschooling is the education of children at home, typically by parents or guardians, rather than in a public or private school. The Arlington Central School District shall ensure that children instructed at home are taught by a competent instructor and receive an education substantially equivalent to that offered in the district's schools. Homeschooling is an option for parents who wish to provide their children with a different learning environment than exists in public schools. It is also an alternative for those families who are unable, for practical or personal reasons, to comply with the regulations of a public school.

Parents/Guardians who wish to educate their children at home must submit to the District a letter indicating their intent to home school. After the intent is received, the District will then require an Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) be completed outlining the goals to be met and the course materials and syllabi to be used each year for the child's learning process. The District may accept or deny an IHIP. Parents/Guardians must submit quarterly reports which will provide the District with the necessary information to make determinations of substantial equivalency and competency of instruction on an ongoing basis.

    PARTICIPATION IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Home school students are not entitled to participate in interscholastic sports or to participate in intramural sports and other school-sponsored extracurricular activities.

    INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The District does not loan instructional materials, such as textbooks, library materials and computer software to home schooled students.

Letters of intent, Individualized Home Instruction Plans and all other Homeschooling correspondence should be directed to homeschool@acsdny.org.

All Homeschooling documents may be submitted via email to homeschool@acsdny.org, or regular mail to the attention of Homeschooling.
