Mrs. Ariel Balbuena

Welcome!

My name is Mrs. Balbuena and I am super excited to be here at West Road! I was born and raised in Harlem, NY ( NYC). I moved to the Hudson Valley area in 2015. I currently live in Poughkeepsie, NY with my husband and five children aged 13,11,11,4,and 2. When I am not in the classroom, one may find me baking a dessert, going on adventures with my family, or attending one of my childrens’ or past students' sports games. As an undergraduate, I pursued a B.S. in Psychology and Education at Mercy College. I then proceeded to attend Grand Canyon University to obtain my M.S. in Childhood Education. I am certified in all grade levels between Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Although this will be my first year as a 4th grade teacher, I began my teaching career five years ago. I began my teaching career as a student teacher in a private school in Beacon, NY. I previously taught students in grades: Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 6th grade. In the Pre-Kindergarten through 1st grade level, I placed a huge emphasis on phonics instruction.. Additionally, I was an Afterschool Director in which my main focus was on tutoring and providing additional academic intervention and support to students in both the private and public sector and in all grade levels. Prior to becoming an educator, I worked in the human services industry providing direct 1:1 support for students and their families to overcome a variety of challenges both inside and outside of the classroom.

I am beyond excited to be working with my students and their families this school year! Parent-Teacher relationships are an integral part of a student’s learning journey as students will develop academically, socially, and emotionally. This relationship will also make the most informed decisions about how best to support and meet the needs of that student.

I cannot wait to see what this school year has in store for us! We will laugh, grow, explore, have fun, but most importantly end this school year as a family!
