Arlington Receives National Recognition for 14th Consecutive Year
The Arlington Central School District has once again been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation, recognizing its outstanding support and commitment to music education.
Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts across the United States that demonstrate exceptional achievement in providing music access and education to all students. Two awards are given annually: the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) award for school districts, and the SupportMusic Merit Award (SMMA) for individual school sites. This year, over 1,000 districts and schools—including public, private, charter, and parochial institutions—were recognized for their high commitment to music programs. When asked about the importance of music education in the district, Kristina Rizzo, K–8 Music Coordinator, and Richard Guillen, 9–12 Music Coordinator, shared:
“Music has been a vital part of the Arlington Central School District community for more than 55 years. The continued support from our community, Board of Education, and district administration has been essential to the program’s longstanding tradition of excellence. Receiving this designation once again reaffirms what we are fortunate to experience every day. We are proud to carry forward the rich legacy of music education that Arlington is known for.”
To qualify for the designation, Arlington’s music coordinators completed a comprehensive survey covering funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instructional time, facilities, program support, and community music-making initiatives. Responses were verified by district officials and reviewed by the arts education research organization WolfBrown.
The Arlington Central School District serves a diverse student population from kindergarten through grade 12. Known for its commitment to academic excellence and whole-child education, Arlington places a strong emphasis on the arts. Its K–12 music program includes general music, instrumental and vocal instruction, and participation in award-winning ensembles that reflect the district’s deep commitment to musical excellence.
