Former Titusville Teacher Dr. Phil Benante Named New Superintendent

Board Appoints Next Superintendent
April 30, 2024

Dear Arlington Community,

Tonight, the Board of Education appointed Philip Benante, Ed.D. as Arlington’s next Superintendent of Schools. He will assume his new role this summer.

Dr. Benante, an Arlington High School graduate, began his career as a fifth-grade teacher at Titusville Intermediate School. He went on to serve as an assistant principal at Arlington High School and as the Beekman Elementary School Principal. From 2013 to 2018, he led instruction as Arlington’s Deputy Superintendent of Schools.  Since July 2018, he has served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Haldane Central School District.

Dr. Benante has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from SUNY Cortland and a Master of Science in Special Education from Mount Saint Mary’s College. He earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Development in 2018 from Fordham University. Dr. Benante lives with his family in Pleasant Valley.

When the Board embarked on our search for Arlington’s next Superintendent, we met with various stakeholder groups to learn about the qualities that our community wanted in a superintendent. You told us that you wanted a student-focused leader with a commitment to academic excellence who respects and values the expertise of faculty and staff. Someone who has strong communication skills and is visible and approachable to students, staff, and parents. Most importantly, our community asked for a proven leader who will bring longevity and stability to the District; a leader who both understands Arlington’s rich history and is forward-thinking to adapt to the changing environment of education. We are confident that we have found all of these attributes in Phil Benante.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Benante back to Arlington.

Sincerely,

Mary Anne Meaden
President, Arlington Board of Education
