UVMS's "Tattoo your teacher" event to spark participation in the "Cram the Classroom" drive was a great success! Teachers volunteered to apply the tattoos as a reward for students who used donation items to trade for tattoos for their favorite teacher! It was a fun way to support a great cause, with all donations going directly to Dutchess Outreach.

In honor of Wellness Wednesday, a districtwide focus on mental health and well-being, Union Vale Middle School 6th-grade students explored Neurographic Art in Art class. Through slow, mindful drawing and creative choice-making, students practiced calming strategies, self-regulation, and a sense of control; important social-emotional skills, especially during the middle school years.

Sixth graders got a hands-on social studies lesson when they were tasked with creating their own cave paintings on the walls of UVMS. As the culminating activity after learning about early humans during the Stone Age students had to scavenge outdoors for materials to create a paint brush. Then using their brush, they worked on two paintings: one in the style of early humans and one for the modern day. Their teachers Matt Fiedler & Michelle Simonetty from Team 1 and Matt Reilly & Amanda Clemenza from Team 2 made the experience extra fun by dressing up in costume for the event.

Friday, Oct. 17, UVMS ended the week with some fun: holding an activity period for the entire building. Students enjoyed an inflatables race featuring faculty and staff, they earned for supporting the PTA’s Coin Wars fundraiser and surpassing the goal by raising $1,934.02! It was a beautiful day to spend a little extra time outside, and everyone had a blast!
