Hi! My name is Ms. Acosta and I teach Special Education at Union Vale Middle School. I received my Masters Degree from SUNY New Paltz in the spring of 2002; my undergraduate degree is from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY, and this is my 19th year teaching at the middle school level.

I believe teachers need to encourage learning in all aspects of children's lives, and this is especially important at the middle school level. Whether they find a subject easy or difficult, students can improve their understanding of it while receiving the instruction, support and encouragement they need.

Students who learn to prepare, complete and check their own work become adults who tackle life's problems without waiting for others to do it for them. All students can grow and succeed, regardless of their current levels and abilities, as long as we support their efforts. Middle school is the time when they transform from dependent 6th graders to independent high school students; it is a privilege to be a part of their journey.
