The Arlington Central School District is using a newly designed elementary report card for the 2024-25 school year. Our report cards are now standards-based and communicate a student’s progress in meeting specific grade-level learning standards for each major subject area (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies). There is also a newly designed section, “Habits of Lifelong Learning” which is based on the Arlington Portrait of a Graduate, as well as sections for special area teachers to report on student progress.
You will note that each section of the report card describes specific learning standards or skills related to that content area. Teachers use a score of 1-4 to describe the student’s level of proficiency for each skill. The focus is on how each student’s performance approaches, meets, or exceeds the grade level standard as defined by the NYS Next Generation Standards in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
The benefit of a standards-based report card for parents is that it provides a more accurate reflection of student learning. It shifts the focus to growth and mastery of grade level skills over the course of the school year. It also helps families to understand what is expected at each grade level and where their students may need additional support or enrichment/extensions.
Please review the sample report cards below and our Frequently Asked Questions for more information. Reach out to your child’s teacher or the school principal with additional questions about the report card.
