Anchoring Our Schools and Community
On Tuesday, May 21, the Arlington Central School District community approved a community-created bond proposal to update our schools. The 2024 Facilities Bond will fund renovations, upgrades and new construction throughout the district. The bond proposal addresses our most important facility needs including constructing new classrooms and labs, new library media centers, eliminating temporary classrooms, adding welcoming and secure vestibules, new roofs where needed, upgrading electrical systems and much more. Once the work is completed, every school will see enhancements.
We are grateful for our community's support of our schools, and we are committed to keeping you informed of our progress. We will update this page with progress reports, photos, and timelines as they become available.
To lead this project, the Board of Education has hired Tetra Tech Architects and Engineers, a respected local firm based in Middletown, with a satellite office in Millbrook. Tetra Tech has been working with Arlington since 2015, overseeing 13 projects worth over $59 million dollars, including the 2016 bus project, security enhancements, flooring abatement, and this summer’s roofing projects at Vail Farm Elementary, Union Vale Middle, and Arlington High School.
The 2024 Capital Project will roll out in phases, starting with additions at LaGrange Middle and West Road Intermediate Schools, which are currently in the design phase. Tetra Tech believes in an open and collaborative approach. Since June, they’ve been working with staff at Traver, West, and LaGrange Middle School to create designs that align with our district’s goals. On October 25, teachers from Traver and West visited New Fairfield Elementary to learn about the benefits and challenges of their recent primary/intermediate school consolidation.
It’s important for our faculty, staff, and administrators—the people who interact with students daily—to be involved in this project. Their insights will help us meet the needs of Arlington students while staying within the budget approved by our community. We expect to finalize designs for LaGrange Middle and West Road Intermediate Schools this spring, after which we’ll submit the plans to the NYS Education Department for approval, which may take six to eight months. Construction is set to start in spring 2026.
