Requesting Teacher/Principal Ratings
-
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) is an evaluation of a teacher’s or principal’s practice, which includes a broad assessment of teacher/principal skills by a lead evaluator and a determination of student growth through local and state assessments. Pursuant to Education Law §3012-c, parents and legal guardians of a student may request the final rating and the overall composite effectiveness score for each teacher and building principal their child is assigned to for the current school year.
New York State has differentiated teacher and principal effectiveness using four rating categories—Highly Effective, Effective, Developing, and Ineffective. The law requires annual professional performance reviews (APPRs) to result in a single composite teacher or principal effectiveness score that incorporates multiple measures of effectiveness.
The composite effectiveness score ranges from 0 to 100 and the final quality rating is determined by that score. New York State has determined the ranges and rating labels to be as follows:
Final Quality Rating
Composite Effectiveness Score
Ineffective
0-64
Developing
65-74
Effective
75-90
Highly Effective
91-100
Arlington’s APPR plan can be viewed in its entirety on our district website or on the New York State Education Department website.
If you are interested in receiving your child’s teacher or principal quality ratings and composite effectiveness scores, please complete the Request for Teacher/Principal Final Quality Rating form and contact the superintendent’s office at 845-486-4460 to establish a meeting to process a score request. Please note that we must verify a parental/guardian relationship when processing all requests. Parents and guardians should be prepared to provide photo identification as part of this process.
