Ms. Oberrieth
Hi! I am the Psychologist at ASM. This is my 44th year in education and my 31st year in Arlington. I started my career as a Teaching Assistant in the City of Poughkeepsie Schools and then moved to the Astor Day Treatment Program, where I was the senior Clinician and Admissions Coordinator for 8 years. Both settings taught me to know students and their families and to respect the needs of both within the educational environment.
I came to Arlington in 1994. Having been born in Arlington, Virginia of a military family, I find it cosmic to be a member of the Arlington School Community. I have one daughter who lives in London, England. I have been the Psychologist in most of the elementary schools, did a small placement in Arlington Middle, some consultation to LaGrange Middle, had responsibility for the students placed outside of Arlington and finally have settled at Arthur S May. This is an A”MAY zing” school. I have the best colleagues!
It is very important to me to know all the students and to be accessible to families. I am in and out of classrooms every day. Along with my colleague, Mrs. Vandermark, the Social Worker, I meet with students individually and in groups. Social groups are very flexible as students with delays also need positive and out-going role models to help them develop. Some Lunch groups are simply an opportunity for students to have fun (I have a room filled with games, puppets, art supplies, etc.). It is an opportunity for me to know students, for them to know me, and to provide a very safe place should adversity befall any ASM student.
I also coordinate Special Education services and 504 Accommodations. I am always happy to discuss what students might need and which resources best fit their profile. You can reach me at x11107. Early mornings are best, but I will always get back to you.
I look forward to the 24/25 school year!
