About Ms. Maggiacomo
Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Melissa Maggiacomo
This will be my 20th year teaching at Arthur S. May Elementary! I went to SUNY Cortland for my undergrad work, and then Mount Saint Mary College for my Master's in Reading and Special Education. Some of my favorite topics to teach in Third Grade are: Multiplication/Division, writing Fairytales adaptations, Birds, Cursive, reading groups, and book clubs. I especially love our shared reading experiences with: Stone Fox and Because of Winn-Dixie! We also do science experiments, hands-on math games/activities, and learn how to increase our reading stamina! Third Graders will not only learn to read for enjoyment, but also learn how to read for new information.
I grew up in Pleasant Valley, and attended the Arlington school district. I can still remember so many of my teachers, and their passion and enthusiasm inspired me to become an educator. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my son Cole, and the rest of our family and friends. I am an aunt to six awesome kids: Caden, Taylor, Dominick, Addision, Julian, and Leo. Cole and I enjoy taking our dog, Maggie, for long walks on the Railtrail and the Walkway Over the Hudson. During the summer, my favorite place to be is the beach! There is nothing better than sitting on the sand and splashing around in the waves!! If you were to look into my beach bag or on my dresser at home, you would find these genres: suspense, mystery, true stories, and health and wellness books. It's important to always be reading and learning new things....no matter what age you are!
