Welcome to ELA! This year students will have a single ELA period with me, and will have a separate reading period with another teacher. Some of our lessons will overlap or cover similar skills, and that is intentional. In ELA, we'll do lots of reading, writing and discussions based on our texts. We will do lots of nonfiction articles and informational texts, and also read fictional short stories, and even a few novels. Students will learn how to attack these texts, and how to write about what was learned from them. We will also cover study skills, vocabulary, and work in some fun. I also use a lot of multimedia in class; videos, songs, movies--anything that can reinforce skills we are working on. Have faith that when we watch Spongebob, it has an educational purpose. (Really!)
