• Our Independent Reading Component

Self-selected independent reading will be a year long, on-going assignment.  You should always have a book that you have chosen to read with you.

I will help you with book selection, but ultimately, the choice is yours!  Your books may come from home, the book store, the library, or the classroom.  You may choose to read a book as a result of a class book talk, or a recommendation from a friend, a kindly librarian, a relative or a person you meet while waiting for your orthodonitist appointment.  Maybe you saw the movie and now want to read the book or you want to read the book before the movie comes out.  Did the Olympics inspire you?  I've got some books you might like!  Does the economy concern you?  I've got a title or two for you.  War?  There are some books on the non-fiction shelves in our classroom.  Love fiction?  There's plenty to choose from on our shelves.  If you aren't enticed in 1444, try the library!

The point is, we're going to start class everyday reading independent selections, and I will expect you to have your books with you to read during downtime all of the other days!

I'll tell you about what I've read this summer in September! (and most days after that :)
